Building Projects
Bricks and Mortar
The water well came first. Then the cattle shelter and chicken house. Next, the 6,000 sq. ft community centre with kitchen, storage and office space. It’s such a place of pride, a local pastor celebrated his own wedding there. Washroom and shower facilities were our most recent build – now we’re just waiting for power.
In Malawi, it’s common to make bricks by hand but it’s difficult and unreliable work and wood is becoming scarce to fire them. Fountain of Hope invested in a hydraform brick-making machine and that made it easier to complete the community centre and to begin our current building project: a school with four classrooms. Brick-making will eventually be another form of revenue.
Looking to the Future
Completing the school is not too far off on the horizon. Once that is finished, we will begin a housing project to accommodate teachers and volunteers; following that, more classrooms. With those needs met, we will start raising the funds to realize our vision of a home for children, a place of shelter and love for orphans of Malawi.
How you can Support our Building Projects
Can you paint? You don’t need to be an artist to help us add colour to the structures our local workers have built. Consider volunteering. Click here to learn more.
General donations are needed to finish the schoolhouse and begin work on the staff and volunteer housing, if you’re able to give financially. Click here for ways of giving.
